Set as a part of an great Ocean Spirit Festival, the second phase of Portuguese National Championship was held last weekend in Santa Cruz.

The Wave Championship was organized with the support of Ocean Spirit Crew and Town Hall of Torres Vedras. 27 riders from all over the country entered the competition and on windy Saturday on Santa Rita beach, after a short briefing first heats had started.

The wind speed was around 15 knots, the direction side-on and with 1m waves it was possible to finish all the singles by 20 p.m. At the same time the KPWT –Wave Masters took place so it was a really great day for the athletes and for all kitesurf enthusiasts.

Some of the riders such as Marco Resende, Gonçalo Gomes, Bruno Henrique Melo e Claudio were able to participate in both Championships due to coordination of both crews. There were a lot of new faces as well as already well known riders in the competition.

They all spent a wonderful weekend kitesurfing and partying together at the Ocean Spirit Festival. On Sunday due to poor weather conditions FPKite called of the doubles and claimed the winner of National Wane Championship 2009 a young rider from Coimbra: Gonçalo Gomes!
