The first day of the Sardinia Grand Slam, the World Kite League finals (organised by the GLEsport with the technical-sports support of the Sporting Club Sardinia of Porto Pollo under the aegis of IKA and the support of the Regione Autonoma (Autonomous Region) of Sardinia together with the Department of Tourism and the Municipality of Palau), has unfortunately been compromised by the total absence of the necessary wind to allow the riders to open up their kites and start the heats.
While the top international riders and the strongest national athletes took advantage of this to visit Capo d’Orso, Punta Sardegna and the Fortress of Monte Altura, the main draw with the heats was made official.
The Freestyle will kick off with an entirely Italian double challenge between the new Italian champion Gabriele Garofalo and the juniors champion Francesco Contini.
In heat 21 another Italian challenge between the other Italian champion Gianmaria Coccoluto and Andrea Vicari. On the other hand Milazzo will face the German Hoppe in heat 19 while Klausing will compete against the Slovenian Komocar.
Round 1 for the Freestyle of the Sardinia Grand Slam will end with the heats between Corniel and Bridge, Del Rosario and Marcesini, Martinez and Burgers.
The women will have two heats in Round 1. In the first one the Italians Tagliente and Piccioni will compete against the Slovak Magaji while in the second one, Tomasoni will face Rosa (Brazil) and Otth (Switzerland).
Today the skippers’ meeting is scheduled at 10.00 am. A perfect wind is expected between 12.00 pm and 14.00 to properly start the very first heats of the Sardinia Grand Slam.
