The best riders in the world have all gathered in Isla de Coche for the registration of the second stop of the Virgin Kitesurf World Championships (VKWC). 49 participants from 18 countries are ready to battle and show their best tricks in both freestyle and big air disciplines.
20 to 25 knots is forecast for the next few days and it is looking very promising for the rest of the week.
« We usually have great conditions here and the forecast seems to be pretty good. I think the event is going to be excellent and I am very happy to welcome the World Tour again. I am a kiteboarder and I do this for the love of the sport. Everybody loves kiteboarding here and I think we can expect a large audience to support the competition » Richard Farr, local organizer.
Great freestyle action is expected. Current number one Liam Whaley (ES) will try to claim his first back-to-back victory after having won the first stop in Dakhla, Morocco. He will fight against more experienced riders such as reigning world champion Christophe Tack (BE), five-time world champion Aaron Hadlow (GB) and also two-time world champion Youri Zoon (NL).
As for the ladies, this second event of 2015 VKWC season will again see nine-time world champion Gisela Pulido (ES), current freestyle world champion Karolina Winkowska (PL) and 2009 world champion Bruna Kajiya (BR) doing their utmost to beat off the competition.
Big air is planned Thursday 11th and Friday 12th. The forecast is looking more promising with stronger winds enabling riders to jump as high as possible while performing their most technical tricks. Kevin Langeree (NL), currently leading the big air discipline has come to defend his position, while Marc Jacobs (NZ) and Oswald Smith (ZA) will try their best to take him down.
On the girls side, Gisela Pulido (ES), Annelous Lammerts (NL) and Hannah Whiteley (GB) amongst others will show their highest moves to please spectators and judges alike.
Skipper’s meeting will take place at 10 a.m. with the start at 1 p.m. The top 21 male pre-qualified riders will be challenged by three local competitors and the 10 female pre-qualified riders will be joined by 2 local wildcard contenders.
