Xenon La Luz
Xenon Kiteboarding is a new kiteboard manufacturer. It came to life in 2008 as a joint venture of people from different backgrounds but with a shared passion for kiteboarding.
In their debut year they will produce 2 boards:
- La Luz
La Luz is Xenon’s high performance board, freestyle oriented twin-tip, built with the finest materials on the market.
We had the chance to test the 132cms Xenon La Luz, Xenon’s freestyle oriented high performance twin-tip, board and we have to admit that the board is sick. Besides this size the board is available in more 2 sizes: 129cm and 135cm with stance 55.5-61.5 cm.
Board Shape and Construction
We received the pack and as usual we felt like kids opening their Christmas presents.
Together with the board came 4 G10 fins (5,4cms), a handle and pads.
The first impression, as soon as we took the board from the box, was that the Xenon La Luz was very light, with simple but nice graphics.
However we had the impression, probably due to the fact that it’s really light, that the board might be fragile.
Xenon La Luz is build with the finest materials on the market and the most recent technology.
- Ultra light full carbon and wood core construction
- fleX concept – this breakthrough technology based on specially selected wood core combined with flex placement guarantees ultimate comfort of riding while maintaining top performance parameters – great pop, speed and up wind abilities with less effort
- Ultralight SRS Air Pads with memory foam top layer – durable memory foam top layer combined with the cutting-edge Air Bag shock absorber ensures ultimate comfort for every foot
- Easy to mount, fully adjustable straps – comfortable and durable footstraps with easy-mounting system can be easily adjusted to any foot
We can define the shape of the board as classic. It has 132cm height, 40cm width in the middle and 30cm width on the tips with 0,8 cms concave on the bottom.
On the water
We tested the board mainly in small wave and choppy water. In those conditions, La Luz is very comfortable to ride.
I felt that the board have a soft but balanced flex, delivering good pop to the rider.
Landings on this board are a must, the board absorbs the impact and even the hardest core landings are softer and more comfortable then with other boards.
I personally hate mount straps on the boards, sometimes it’s really a nightmare, but the Xenon straps are very easy to place and adjust. The pads that come in the pack transmit a solid feel of the
board and its riding characteristics. They are comfortable, though at the beginning I didn’t like the pads very much, maybe because I am used to other type of pads. It’s just a matter of get use to them.
With this size the board is light wind machine but it’s a fact that the board have good upwind capacity and starts planning relatively early.
Some of my first impressions about the board turned out to be right, other were wrong.
True that the board is light, and the graphics are super cool. False that the board is fragile. The board construction is very stiff and bottom sheet of the board is resistant to scratches.
But what really surprised me the most was the comfort of the board.
The guys from Xenon are so sure about the quality of their boards that they offer 3 years breakage guarantee.
Comfort, performance and lightness are the best three words we can find to describe Xenon La Luz.
Xenon have a realy nice board that suit our riding style. But the best you can do is try it.
