Successful and action packed KB4girls 2010 World Tour clinic on Maui concludes

The spectacular tropical Hawaiian island of Maui was at its peak and delivered perfect conditions for the 20 participants of the KB4girls camp at Action Beach Maui this past weekend. From April 9th to 11th the girls gathered to be coached and trained by pro riders Tomoko Okazaki and Tonia Farman as well as World Champion Kristin Boese. Once again KB4girls proved to be a successful undertaking motivating kiting girls from all over the place, being inspired and pushing themselves to the next level of riding and many learned new tricks.

While the event got kicked off with an intense IKO safety briefing and riding test to certify that all participants would be riding independently and safely the action continued with a demonstration on land and water and a lot of riding for all participating girls. On Sunday morning a Surfrider Foundation beach clean up was carried out within the scope of the girls clinic and after collecting quite a few bags of trash from the beach the Surfrider Foundation educational materials were used to teach water-wise living practices.

“Our KB4girls event on Maui has probably been the most action packed clinic so far and I am quite taken aback by how much we managed to fit into this two and a half day event. The IKO safety briefing that we recently introduced to the KB4girls tour through our cooperation with the IKO has proved to be amazingly helpful for both, the participants and us instructors and made teaching in the deep waters of Maui a blast. The Surfrider Beach clean up was another highlight of the event as many of the girls showed great passion for the environment and were very interested to learn about water wise tactics. KB4girls on Maui was a real success and surely a lot of fun for everyone!” says Kristin Boese, founder of KB4girls.

Milena Kari, participant in the KB4girls clinic Maui said: “The clinic has been great, I tried tricks that I had never tried before and even learned some new ones. I got to try new gear, kite with all the other girls and watch Kristin ride and demonstrate the different maneuvers. This has been the most fun I had this year so far and it was just great!”

This event however would not have been possible without the amazing support of the local kiteschools and communities namely Action Sport Maui, Maui Sportsunlimited and Kite Club Maui who co-hosted the event with much dedication.

Suzie Dorn from Action Sports Maui says: “This year’s KB4girls camp on Maui was the best event ever. We had women from ages 16 to 66 with different backgrounds, skill levels and interests but all the girls share their love for kiteboarding. The energy and female support from the participants and coaches was great, each girl unleashed new skills and was inspired to push their personal limits. This was the first ever three day women’s kite camp on Maui and it really made a difference for the Maui women kiters, the girls visiting from the mainland and our international visitors. A big thanks to Kristin for creating such a unique and exciting event and choosing Maui as a KB4girls camp destination. We are already looking forward to next year’s Maui event.”

Action Sports Maui has a long tradition of supporting women’s kiteboarding, over the past 10 years they have taught thousands of women from around the world to kite. In addition to their kiteboarding lessons, they also offer a Kite Club Ladies Days on every Sunday during the Hawaiian summers. In those free clinics for any upwind female rider the girls get together, ride, and work on tricks. Suzie and David Dorn proved to be the perfect partners for KB4girls and together their dedication delivered an amazing event that local riders and participants are sure to remember.

Amazing volunteers are what make KB4girls a success in the first place and Tomoko Okazaki and Tonia Farman, who kindly donated their time and teaching skills, as well as Nate Volk, who took amazing pictures for the girls throughout the whole event, were just as important as the prize donations from Hawaiian Island Surf and Sport, DaKine, Best Kiteboarding and Kiehl’s. Thanks to everyone for creating yet another successful KB4girls clinic!
