On the heels of the Egyptian clinic the most multi-nationally attended KB4girls event to date, the camp in St Pere Pescador, Catalonia, from May 28-30 lifted the tour to a new level. New standards were attained in taking the tour to two countries simultaneously as the passionate kitesurf “addicts” also headed across the Spanish border in search of the perfect conditions.
Unfortunate weather patterns over the Gulf of Roses meant the usually reliable thermal winds did not reach the usual strength which left the KB4girls group waiting for the necessary conditions.
As good kiteboarders, the participating girls proved flexible and extremely motivated and their eagerness to find suitable conditions in which to learn from the Pro riders Kristin Boese and Ania Grzelinska meant that, on Day Two of the KB4girls Spain event, everyone took off for the world renowned kitesurf destination near Leucate in the South of France, only one hour drive away from the original event venue.
Here the group found 20-knot winds and perfect shallow and flat waters so the excursion turned out to be more than successful. Total time on the water worked out at five hours and the average number of new tricks learned was two per person. Everyone returned back for dinner at St Pere Pescador both happy but also tired after the great work-out.
Kristin Boese says: “It was astonishing for me to see how eager the girls were to find wind for our KB4girls clinic and how not even a single participant doubted making the trip up into France. It definitely was the best decision we could have made and while we had the perfect kite day with sunshine and great conditions it also made me really admire this troop of female kiteboarders.”
Nicole Rimser, one of the event participants, said: “It was simply great. We had the best time ever with Kristin and Ania. I am amazed by how much I improved during this one day and through the demonstrations on and off the water. I can now ride toeside, landed my first back roll and tried my first jumps. I am still smiling.”
On Sunday, the third and final day of the event, the girls took time to stretch, relax and recover from the day before. They also took advantage of the time to listen to tips and tricks from Kristin and Ania and practise their manoeuvres on land and with mental imaging.
The Ballena Alegre Camping, a huge upscale campground, proved a perfect venue and host for the weekend where the girls could either sleep in bungalows or in their vans or tents and be together in one place. The Opening BBQ for KB4girls which was organised by Ballena Alegre on the Friday evening was very much appreciated and ensured a fun evening complete with a typical Spanish grill-out and sangria.
Pure Action Sports Spain and POPKITE were present all weekend to support the girls in every way. A big thanks goes out to all the supporters and to the girls for all their motivation and enthusiasm.
