Kitemovement Team in Algarve 2009
Algarve is one of the most famous Portuguese regions among tourist from all over the world.
It has delicious seafood, breathtaking landscapes, amazing beaches and great, warm and sunny weather almost all year round.
As we were able to discover in the beginning of July it also has one of the best kitesurfing spots. With stable and moderately strong winds it is truly a paradise that offers all kinds of water and wind conditions for all sort of riders from beginners to professionals.
During 10 days with great wind and weather thanks to our friends from South Adventures Team; Ricardo, Sofia and João, we were able to discover some of Algarve’s best kitesurfing spots. Together we have been to almost deserted peninsulas, islands and white sandy beaches. We have ridden in the ocean and lagoons, flat water and choppy water and waves.
South Adventures Team definitely know how to choose a spot you will love and if you cannot go there by foot or by car you can always get there with one of their boats. The boat is an essential piece in South Adventure Team’s work, it allows them to search for the wind and gives them the access to all the best spots. It is not only an important thing for those who are looking for a kite-trip but also for those that are willing to take lessons.
It really makes you feel much better if you are sure that if something goes wrong your instructor will be with you within moments to help. All those days we spent kitesurfing with South Adventures we were able to watch closely one of the best schools at work. They are reliable, responsible and still fun and friendly people. They have great knowledge about their home spots, weather conditions and what is more important they are experienced and IKO certified instructors working in the area since 2004.
We had a couple of great sessions on Ilha de Faro (Faro Island) where you can kitesurf either on the side of the lagoon where water is totally flat and quite shallow perfect for the beginners and those who want to learn and improve freestyle tricks or on the ocean which obviously offers great fun on waves.
We spent two days in Ria de Alvor (Alvor’s Lagoon) next to town of Alvor which in terms of conditions due to slightly gusty wind seems to be a little more demanding, still we had a great time on the deserted island in the middle of the lagoon surrounded by choppy and flat water.
During those days we also visited a “secret spot” that offered an unforgettable experience. We had been kiting right next to the entrance of a lagoon on perfectly flat, clear and transparent water. You may find it hard to believe but if the water was just a few degrees warmer so that we could kite without our wetsuits it would be way better then Brazil.
But why don’t you try it yourself? Whether you are just a beginner or more experienced rider who want to discover new spots orduring your visit to Portugal planning on taking some kitesurf lessons, just take a look at their site: southadventures.com.pt
