KTA 2012 kicked off its first round in Boracay Island, the Philippines, last night, with a welcome party at EPIC Boracay, with delegates from across the globe converging to celebrate the international kite board competition’s third successful year! A reunion of sorts, the crowd of kite champions and enthusiasts, supporters and island residents enjoyed an evening of revelry, with riveting live performances by KADANGYAN, with a surprise guest drummer – 13-year-old kiter Oleg from Russia jamming with the big boys, great food and flowing booze, Boracay-style!
Powered by AQUA BORACAY – a brand new upscale resort development on Bulabog Beach (Boracay’s main windsurfing and kiteboarding beach, which has earned the distinction as the ‘Number One kite boarding beach in Asia,’ and the scene of two previous years of KTA competition and home to one of Asia’s longest running Windsurf and Kiteboard events the Funboard Cup) – guests were initiated into Boracay’s thriving night scene, a precursor to the exhilarating journey ahead! So folks, take a walk on the wild side, and we fly high!
Today saw an unprecedented record-breaking registration of 79 riders, with 62 racers – 22 men and 16 women, all in top form and ready to put their game face (and body) on! With good winds blowing, freestyle and course racing begins tomorrow, so brace yourselves for a hell of a ride!
