The new challenge for 2015 has been announced: From Lisbon to Madeira Island non-stop! A journey of almost 1000 km that is expected to last between 36 and 43 hours, including two nights crossing the deep waters of the Atlantic ocean, with several risks and adversities.
The challenge is expected to take place between June and July 2015, depending on the meteorological forecast given by the Portuguese Navy Office.
With this new odyssey, Francisco Lufinha, will not only be the first person to connect the Portuguese capital to the Madeira archipelago kitesurfing, but also attempt to break his own world record of the Longest Kitesurf Journey without stops.
“The first two odysseys of the MINI Kitesurf Odyssey already tested all my limits, but in this journey everything seems extra difficult and new. All the physical and psychological training do not seem enough, I’ve been giving my best to overcome the difficulties and to achieve my goal of connecting Portugal kitesurfing. I’ve been working very hard and my team (both at sea and inland) has also been giving its best. ”, said Francisco Lufinha.
Francisco has already started his training for this new challenge. He did the first test at the tricky “Cais das Colunas”, one of the most iconic places in Lisbon. This was the first time that a kitesurfer started from the pier. He also trained and simulated his arrival at Machico bay, the final stop of the Lisbon-Madeira challenge.
